Independence – Dale D. McGill, 82 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died at his home on Saturday, June 21, 2014. He was born on March 21, 1932, on the same farm where he died in Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of John Howard and Freda Mae (Dunlap) McGill. He graduated from high school in Independence, Iowa, with the Class of 1950. On November 21, 1953, he and the former Jane Adella Rice were married in Waterloo, Iowa. They were dairy farmers until 1997, when Mr. McGill partially retired. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Independence and the Farm Bureau. He could usually be found tinkering around the farm, observing wildlife, or restocking his birdfeeders.
Mr. McGill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane, 1 son, Steve (Nancy) McGill of Nevada, Iowa, 2 daughters, LouAnn (Stu) Allen and Cindy (Charlie) McCardle, both ofIndependence, Iowa, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Bob McGill and Harley McGill.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Gary Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m.until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24th, at the funeral home.
A Memorial Fund has been established.
