Independence – Kenneth C. Hoffman, 70 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born on April 3, 1944, at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, the son of Lester Melvern and Mildred Winifred (Bender) Hoffman. He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1962. On September 15, 1963, he and the former Nancy Jane Higgins were married at the First Baptist Church in Independence. Mr. Hoffman served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a heavy equipment operator with Larson Construction in Independence before retiring in 2014. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter and watching Green Bay Packers football and other sports.
Mr. Hoffman is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy, 1 daughter, Laurie (Corey) Maddux of Allen, Texas, 1 granddaughter, Mallory, and 1 sister, Shirley (Michael) Andres of Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 17th at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Military Service begins at 7 p.m.
