Jesup – Danny Lee Flaharty, 56 years old of Jesup, IA, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at his home following an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Monday, June 2, 2014, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with Msgr. Lyle Wilgenbusch officiating.  Burial will be at St. Athanasius Cemetery, Jesup.  Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, June 1^st at the White Funeral Home, Jesup and visitation will continue for an hour before services Monday at the Church.  Memorials may be directed to the family.

Dan was born June 13, 1957, in Spencer, IA, the son of Paul A. Flaharty and Joyce A. (Carpenter) Flaharty.  On April 19, 1959, he was baptized at Langdon Methodist Church, Langdon, IA.  He graduated from Terril High School at Terril, IA, with the class of 1975 and then attended the University of South Dakota at Vermillion, graduating in 1981, with a B.S. degree in Mathematics.  He began his school teaching career at Albion, Nebraska, and then at Lake City, IA, before moving to Jesup in 1988, where he became head football coach until 1999 and has taught high school math the past 26 years.  He has also been on the faculty at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, IA, teaching nights and summers.  On July 26, 1997, he was united in marriage to Tracy Ann Youngblut at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup. They have made their home in Jesup and have been blessed with four children.  Dan was a dedicated husband, father, and teacher, who always enjoyed helping others improve.

Dan is survived by his wife, Tracy of Jesup and four children all at home, Brett, Brock, Allison and Alex; also his parents, Paul and Joyce Flaharty of Dickens, IA; three brothers, Weldon (Jennifer) Flaharty of Colorado Springs, CO, Stan Flaharty of Rochester, MN, Larry (Linda) Flaharty of Dickens, IA; and many nieces and nephews.  His grandparents, Paul and Ruth Flaharty and Paul and Ruth Carpenter preceded him in death.
