Independence – Richard J. “Porch” Amfahr, 56 years old of Independence, IA, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at his home of cancer. He was born November 6, 1957, in Independence, the son of Pete Amfahr and Delores (Sand) Amfahr. He attended St. John’s Catholic Schools in Independence. On September 16, 1997, he was united in marriage to Robin Julenne Smith at the Quasqueton Union Church, Quasqueton. They have made their home in rural Independence since. Richard was employed as a construction laborer and was a member of the Laborer’s Union #47 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and outdoor activities. He was a member of the Hook-in-liner in Littleton, the Wapsie Fly Away Gun Club and Ducks Unlimited.
Richard is survived by his wife, Robin Amfahr of Independence; two sons, Jay Sandberg of Quasqueton, Ryan (Heather) Amfahr of Quasqueton; two daughters, Jaclyn Sandberg of Palo and Jennifer (Chris) Donley of Palo; 7 grandchildren, Koby, Garret, Christina and Carley Donley, Coltyn and Hadley Amfahr and Rylee Sandberg; two brothers, Robert (Cathy) Amfahr of Grundy Center, Gary (Angie) Amfahr of Des Moines; two sisters, Mary Kay (Steve) Anderson of Cedar Rapids and Rita (Larry) Hickey of Independence, IA. His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Quasqueton Union Church, Quasqueton, IA, with Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Independence.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at the White Funeral Home, Independence.
