Independence – Richard E. “Rick” Scott, 68 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, March 31, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.  He was born on March 9, 1946, in Independence, Iowa, the son of James Richard and Florine Betty (Pattison) Scott.  He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1964.  On October 7, 1967, he and the former Reena Ann Cahill were married in Independence.  Mr. Scott served many functions at Hawkeye Tool and Die in Jesup,Iowa, and then was a maintenance worker at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  He retired in 2008.  Mr. Scott was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence.  He was a licensed ham radio operator.  He always had time to spend with his dog or discuss Chevrolet cars and trucks.

Mr. Scott is survived by  his wife of 46 years, Reena, 2 sons, Todd (Roxann) Scott and Richard Scott II, both of Independence, Iowa, 3 step grandchildren, and 5 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 3^rd, at the funeral home.
