Jesup – Viola M. Adams, 89 years old died Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Buchanan County Health Center - LTC Unit.  She was born May 10, 1924, in Buchanan County, IA, the daughter of Virgil Glen Roster and Vernace S. (Stoner) Roster.  She attended school in Jesup and graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1942.  On July 19, 1942, Viola was united in marriage to Harold Lloyd Adams in Lancaster, MO.  She worked as a bookkeeper for several area businesses over the years, including Hinson Mfg. and Basic Materials Corp, in Waterloo; Micro Switch and the Mental Health Institute in Independence; and the Jesup Cooperative Elevator in Jesup.  In addition to the devotion she had to raising her family, she was also active in many civic endeavors thru the years, including, the Buchanan County Historical Society, Buchanan County Health Care Center Auxiliary, Buchanan County Senior Center and Meals on Wheels, Senior Health Insurance Information Program, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and in earlier years she was active in 4-H and was a Cub Scout Den Leader.  Viola received the "Governor’s Volunteer of the Year Award” twice.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jesup.

Mrs. Adams is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Adams and John Friedman of Haddonfield, NJ; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Dennis and Judy Adams of Omaha, NE, David and Cindee Adams of Mossyrock, WA, and Mary Adams of Jesup, IA; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one sister, Pearl Bryant of California.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 1994; one son Billy Adams; and one brother, Robert Roster.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. - Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, Jesup, IA, with Rev. Lynn C. Gardner officiating.  Burial will be at the Cedar Crest Cemetery in Jesup.  Visitation will be from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 12th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.  

Memorials will be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Jesup and to the Alzheimer’s Association.
