White Funeral Home Independence – Jeanne M. Sand, 77 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at the ABCM Nursing and Rehab. Independence – West in Independence. She was born on July 5, 1936, in Dunkerton, Iowa, the daughter of William Joseph and Clara Catherine (Schons) Staebell. She graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School in Independence with the Class of 1955. On October 8, 1956, she and Lavern Lawrence Sand were married in Jesup, Iowa. Mrs. Sand was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Court Ascension #495 C.D.A. She enjoyed shopping, reading, and raising flowers in her garden. In fact, any time she was out doors in the sun was a good time. Mrs. Sand is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lavern, 2 sons, Mike (Karen) Sand of Rowlett, Texas, and Mark (Debra) Sand of Waverly, Iowa, 2 daughters, Micki (Dan) Sand-Cohen of Independence, Iowa, and Sharon (Don) Forsythe of Jesup, Iowa. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Bill (Marlene) Staebell of Evansdale, Iowa, and Denny (Rita) Staebell of Waterloo, Iowa, and 3 sisters, Stephanie (Roger) Leone of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Mary Perrin of Kansas City, Missouri, and Rita (Mark) Rosauer of Le Claire, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Joe Staebell, Vince Staebell, and John Staebell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Parish Rosary begins at 4 p.m. and a Vigil Service begins at 7 p.m. |
