Independence – Steven D. Walthart, 67 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Buchanan CountyHealth Center in Independence. He was born on September 4, 1946, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Russell William and Della Faye (LeVelle) Walthart. He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1965 and then continued his education at Area 10 Vocational School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On January 9, 1972, he and Linda L. Crawford were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church inIndependence, Iowa. They farmed in Buchanan County, Iowa. Mr. Walthart was a member of the First United Methodist Church inIndependence and the Independence Masonic Lodge #87 A.F. and A.M. He enjoyed time spent socializing with most anyone he met and attending tractor pulls. He also collected classic cars.
Mr. Walthart is survived by his wife, Linda, 3 brothers, Ronald Walthart of Quasqueton, Iowa, Dennis (Carol) Walthart of Colesburg, Iowa, and Douglas Walthart of Strawberry Point, Iowa, and 1 sister, DeeAnn (Patrick) O’Loughlin of Independence, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Terry Walthart.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 28th, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 27th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Masonic Service begins at 7 p.m.
