White Funeral Home Jesup – Lavern Charles Ladage, 89 years old of Jesup, IA died at his home, Sunday, February 9, 2014, following a short illness. He was born April 28, 1924, in Oelwein, IA, the son of Ernest Ladage and Leona (Lau) Ladage. Following graduation from the Tripoli High School with the class of 1942, he served in the US Marines until 1945. He then attended welding schools in Duluth, MN and Clinton, IA. On September 22, 1947, he was united in marriage to Emma Marie Lobeck at Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn, IA. They made their home in Jesup where Vern operated Ruehs & Ladage Welding for 60 years. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Jesup. He had served as Assistant Fire Chief on the Jesup Fire Department, was a former member of the Jesup Ambulance, Blacksmith Association and a member of Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup. Mr. Ladage is survived by one daughter, Sherri (Greg) Arbuckle of Jesup, IA; one son, Brian (Sharon) Ladage of Melbourne, FL; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one sister, LaVon Lohmann of Independence, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emma in 2010; one daughter Sally Ann and one son, Kim Steven, both in infancy; and one brother, Donald Ladage.
