Independence – Ida M. Hansen, 86 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, February 10, 2014, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.  She was born on June 4, 1927, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of George and Nettie Dorothy (Trebon) Sommerfelt.  She attended school in Independence.  On November 16, 1943, she and Blaine Lester Hansen were married in Independence.  He preceded her in death in 1999.  Mrs. Hansen was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.  She was kept busy raising and caring for her family.  She is remembered as an accomplished cook and baker with each family member having an individual favorite.  She also enjoyed sewing, cross stitching, and working puzzle books.

Mrs. Hansen is survived by 2 sons, Steven (Jean) Hansen of Roland, Iowa, and Brian (Janet) Hansen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 2 daughters, Carolyn (Robert) Oberhauser of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Pamela (John) Calderwood of Aplington, Iowa, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son in infancy (Terry), 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Kurt Bockoven officiating.  Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13^th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
