Jesup – Patricia M. Shatzer, 82 years old of Jesup, IA, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at her home following a sudden illness.  She was born July 15, 1931, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth K. Matteson and Marie Elizabeth Henrietta (Schlumbohm) Matteson.  She attended school in Aurora, IA, graduating from high school there in 1948.  She then attended Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, where she received her teaching certificate and then taught in schools at Jesup, Dunkerton and Central City.  On June 5, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert Dale Shatzer in Aurora, IA.  They have made their home in Jesup for many years.  She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Jesup, where she taught Sunday school for over 20 years.  She also was involved in the delivery of Meals on Wheels for many years.

Mrs. Shatzer is survived by her husband, Robert of Jesup; four sons, Brad (Jackie) Shatzer of Hudson, Dale (Sarah) Shatzer of Iowa City, Bruce (Kari) Shatzer of Woodridge, IL, Nyle Shatzer of Tripoli; two daughters, Sonja (Paul) Gibbs of Marion, Angela (David) Zimmer of Altoona; also, 14 grandchildren, Brice and Cade Shatzer, Laura and Kyle Shatzer, Aaron, Hannah and Stephen Shatzer, Danielle, Kristin and Chad Gibbs, Brittany, Beth, Abigail and Reagan Zimmer.  She is also survived by a sister in law, Freda Matteson of New Zealand; and two nieces, Sharon Matteson of New York and Helen Matteson of New Zealand; and one nephew, John Matteson of New Zealand.   Her parents and one brother, Paul Matteson, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the American Lutheran Church, Jesup, IA, with burial at Union Cemetery, Aurora, IA.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials will be directed to the American Lutheran Church in Jesup; Camp EWALU at Strawberry Point; and the Meals on Wheels program.
