Rowley – Doris E. Thompson, 78 years old, of rural Rowley, Iowa, died on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  She was born on October 17, 1935, in Perry, Iowa, the daughter of Warren Dunlap and Katherine Eleanor (Davis) Pratt.  She graduated from high school in Rowley and then completed her nurse’s training at St. Luke’s Nursing School in Cedar Rapids.  She eventually earned a master’s degree in nursing.  On November 4, 1987, she and Kenneth Thompson were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  He preceded her in death in 2010.  Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Rowley.  She enjoyed cooking (especially baking), reading and gardening.  She also played the electric keyboard at the Senior Center in Independence.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by 2 sons, Bruce W. Kaesser of Waterloo, Iowa, and Rodney Kaesser of Rowley, Iowa, 3 grandchildren, 1 sister, Shirley Rehberg of Rockford, Illinois, and an honorary brother, Joe (Louise) Yoder of Waterloo.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Phil Pratt.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014, at the Rowley Cemetery near Rowley, Iowa.  Friends may call for visitation from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
