Independence – Pauline M. Brace, 87 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at ABCM Nursing and Rehab. Independence – West in Independence. She was born on February 26, 1926, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew Joseph and Julia Marie (VanWaus) Turley. She graduated from St. John’s High School in Independence with the Class of 1945. On February 18, 1947, she and Clair “Tad” Ervin Brace were married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1985. Mrs. Brace was a clerk at Anthony’s Department Store and at Eschen’s Clothing, both in Independence, before retiring in 1995. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. She was an expert at baking pies and enjoyed sewing and shopping for fabrics.
Mrs. Brace is survived by 3 sons, Richard (Connie) Brace of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jim (Joanne) Brace and Dan (Shirley) Brace, both of Winthrop, Iowa, 2 daughters, Judy (Don) Wulfekuhle and Janet (Jon) Isham, both of Independence, Iowa, 7 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 daughter in infancy, Julianne Brace, 1 granddaughter, Nicole Brace, and 1 brother, Joseph Turley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. Rev. Donald Plamondon will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Parish Rosary begins at 3:00 p.m.
