White Funeral Home Independence – Morris Ivan “Mick” Greenley, 79 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care in Independence. He was born on September 10, 1934, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Russell Merry and Laura Janette (Main) Greenley. He attended the Buchanan County country schools and the Independence High School. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army. On June 22, 1957, he and the former Janet Evelyn Horn were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. They farmed near Independence. Mr. Greenley retired (in a manner of speaking) in 1999. Mr. Greenley was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence and the Holman Masonic Lodge #593 in Rowley, Iowa. He was a Master Farmer (1991), a past member of the Independence Community School Board, and the Sumner Township Board of Trustees. He was a past board member of the Iowa Soy Bean Association. Mr. Greenley was a collector of Massey-Harris tractors and participated in several Tractorcades. He also grew sweet corn that he shared with his neighbors and friends. Mr. Greenley is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet, 2 sons, Robert (Jamie) Greenley of Hazleton, Iowa, and Joel (Molly) Greenley of Independence, 2 daughters, Deb (Kevin) Lunn of Jewell, Iowa, and Pam (Bob Cummings) Greenley of Independence. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 brother, Tom (Beth) Greenley of Independence. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Oliver Greenley, Russell Greenley, David Greenley, and Victor Greenley, 2 sisters, Edna Dodge and Jane Riedemann, and 1 great grandson. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Rowley Cemetery in Rowley, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31st, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, where a Masonic Service begins at 7:30 p.m. |
