White Funeral Home Independence – James R. Hare, 86 years old of Independence, IA, died Friday, January 10, 2014, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born May 19, 1927, at Rowley, IA, the son of Benjamin Franklin “Frank” Hare and Adry Maree (Jestes) Hare and attended school in Rowley. He served in the US Army from 1945 -1947. On July 1, 1948, Jim and the former Marie Hope King were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. His first employment was in retail sales before working for Greenley Development in construction. He later worked at Mod Comp Homes, Knot Construction and later Skogman Construction in Cedar Rapids before retirement. Jim enjoyed people, bowling and was an avid baseball fan. He was meticulous and well known for his finish carpentry. Mr. Hare is survived by his wife, Marie of Independence; two daughters, Ann Duwa of Independence and Kathy (Greg) Corkery of Jesup; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two brothers, Frank (Bud) Hare, Jr. and George “Ed” (Betty) Hare of Independence; and his best friend Kenny (Donna) Bagby of Independence. His parents; two sisters, Viola Caldwell and Clara Stock; and four brothers, Raymond, Carl, Lewis and Everett Hare preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. – Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, Independence, with burial at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Hazelton, IA. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by Bechter – Boise VFW Post #2440 and Sheehan – Tidball American Legion Post # 30 of Independence. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 13th at the White Funeral Home, Independence, IA, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family. |
