Independence – Wayne D. McCoy, 58 years old, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab in Waterloo, Iowa.  He was born on September 26, 1955, in Independence, the son of William Henry and Dorothy Lucille (Floyd) McCoy.  He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1974 and then went on to earn his teaching certificate.  He taught school for a time and then served in the U.S. Navy.  At the time of his death he was a customer service worker in Cedar Rapids.

Mr. McCoy is survived by his sister, Wanda (Robert) Shepherd of Ogden, Utah, 1 niece, and 2 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

No services are planned at this time. His cremated remains will be placed in Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, Iowa.  White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
