White Funeral Home Raymond – Richard Raymond Hazel, 80 years old of Raymond, IA, died Friday, December 6, 2013, at NorthCrest Specialty Care in Waterloo. He was born September 3, 1933, at Dunkerton, IA, the son of Joe Albert Hazel and Isabelle (Kerkove) Hazel. After graduation from Dunkerton High School in 1950, he served two years (1953 – 1955) in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. On September 22, 1962, he was united in marriage to Carol Jean Fisher at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. They have made their home in Raymond for many years. Richard worked 32 years at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo as a meat packer and then 10 years at Pries Enterprises in Independence as office manager and bookkeeper. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Raymond. He served three years on the St. Joseph School Board and had volunteered at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many sports, including bowling, tennis, and most of all baseball. He was a little league coach for many years and especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play. Chicago Cubs Baseball is a tradition which will be carried on by his family. He and Carol also enjoyed traveling to many National Parks and have personally visited all the states except Hawaii. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 9th at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA where there will be a parish rosary at 4:00 p.m. and Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. |
