Independence – Ruth M. Horn, 90 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at ABCM Rehab. Center Independence-West.  She was born on June 2, 1923, in Black Hawk County, Iowa, the daughter of Richard A. and Sophia E.B. (Hein) Strempke.  She attended the Black Hawk County country schools.  On March 4, 1948, she and DeVere LaVelle Horn were married at the American Lutheran Church in Jesup, Iowa.  He preceded her in death in 2012.  Mrs. Horn farmed with her husband before retiring.  She raised poultry and delivered eggs to her customers.  Her family was always important to her and she is remembered as being very good cook.

Mrs. Horn was a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence and the Kings Daughters.

Mrs. Horn is survived by 1 daughter, Linda (Roger) Falconer of Center Point, Iowa, 2 sons, Darrell (Teresa) Horn and Duane (Cindy) Horn, both of Independence, Iowa, 10 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 granddaughter, and 1 sister.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2013, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Pastor Greg DeBoer officiating.  Casket Bearers will be Jill Davis, Joni Leymaster, Jenny Horn, Angela Mann, Dusty Horn, Tracy Clinton, Chad Krogman, Denny Horn, Danny Horn, and Darren Horn.  Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 21^st, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
