Independence – Marilyn M. Johnson, 79 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care in Independence. She was born on August 23, 1934, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Frances (Morris) Zimpfer. She graduated from high school in Winthrop, Iowa. On July 6, 1958, she and Loyd Paul Johnson were married at the First Methodist Church in Independence. He preceded her in death in 2004. For 45 years Mrs. Johnson was a teller and new account clerk at the Security State Bank in Independence. She retired in 2002. Mrs. Johnson was a league bowler in Independence and she enjoyed playing all kinds of cards. She was a Red Hatter Lady and was a member of the Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary. She also helped run the Mini Mustang Bank.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by 2 sons, Craig (Susan) Johnson of Independence, Iowa, and Jeff (Jennifer) Johnson of Ankeny, Iowa, and 5 grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son in infancy, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Casket Bearers will be Daryl D. Johnson, Jr., Robert Johnson, Larry Johnson, Charles Tonn, Doug Tonn, Mark Johnson, and Mike Johnson. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. A Memorial Fund has been established.
