White Funeral Home Independence – Diana “Stretch” Walker, 56 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at ABCM Rehab Center Independence-West in Independence. She was born on June 14, 1957, in Pittsburgh, Kansas, the daughter of Harold Eugene and Mary Louise (Lake) Walker. She graduated from Central High School in Waterloo with the Class of 1976 and then attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo. She was a teacher in day care centers and also a cashier at Goodwill Industries in Waterloo. On November 12, 1994, she and Larry John McCardle were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence,Iowa. They later divorced. Ms. Walker was a member of First Baptist Church in Independence. In her free time she enjoyed classic movies and artistic pursuits, like drawing. Ms. Walker is survived by her son, James P. Walker of Des Moines, Iowa, and her sister, Rebecca (Wayne) McGarvey of Hudson, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Debra Walker, and 1 half brother, Lloyd Walker. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Dr. David A. Larson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.on Sunday, Oct. 27th, at the funeral home. |
