Independence – Irene J. Lundahl, 78 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, October 21, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  She was born on February 9, 1935, in Benton County, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd T. and Alvina D. (Grau) Sturtz.  She graduated from high school in Vinton, Iowa, with the Class of 1953.  On August 26, 1953, she and Edward Harold Lundahl were married in Santa Ana, California.  In addition to caring for her family, Mrs. Lundahl worked in the meat departments of grocery stores in Vinton and Independence.  Mrs. Lundahl was a member of Immanuel Lutheran  Church in Independence.  She enjoyed reading, shopping, home decorating, and playing Bridge.  She also spent time playing slot machines at her “club.”

Mrs. Lundahl is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ed, 2 daughters, Angie (Mark) Tigges of Earlham, Iowa, and Christie (Janice Martins) Bitterman of Independence, Iowa, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by 2 sisters, Darlene (Ervin) Krug of LaPorte City, Iowa, and Janice (Leo) Brown of Bullhead City, Arizona, and 1 brother, Darrell (Joan) Sturtz of Marion, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Pastor Greg DeBoer.  Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24^th, at the Garrison Cemetery in Garrison, Iowa.  Friends may call for visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23^rd, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa.
