White Funeral Home La Porte City – Betty Lorraine Jesse, 82 years old, of rural La Porte City, Iowa, died Friday, October 18 at Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer, Iowa. She was born August 11, 1931 in Dysart, daughter of Elmer and Helen (Mannel) Riemer. She married Leland Jesse in La Porte City on March 2, 1957. They lived on the family farm between Jesup and La Porte City where they raised their family. Betty was a member of Zion Lutheran Church – Jubilee. She graduated from La Porte City High School in 1949 and then attended State College of Iowa. She taught elementary school from 1951-1970 at Lansing, West Union, Hampton, Elk Run, and La Porte City. Since 1970, Betty devoted her life to her family. She loved gardening, baking, and attending athletic contests and other events in which her sons, daughter, and grandchildren participated. She always had a large garden. She is survived by her husband; three sons, Brad (Renee’), Brian (Chris), and Barry, all of La Porte City; one daughter, Traci (Felix) Stevens of Ashland, VA, one sister, Donna Maas-Klug of Blairstown, IA; five grandsons, one granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews. Her parents preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. - Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church – Jubilee, rural La Porte City, Iowa, with Rev. Jenna Couch officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran – Jubilee Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m., Monday, at White Funeral Home in Jesup, Iowa, and for an hour before services, Tuesday at the church. The family requests that memorials be directed to the family to be divided between The Black Hawk County Alzheimer’s Association and The Jubilee Zion Lutheran Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
