White Funeral Home Jesup –Marlin Eldis Ewalt, 82 years old, of Jesup, IA, died Thursday, October 17, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Long Term Care, of natural causes. Marlin was born October 31, 1930, in Linn County the son of Wilbur Mack Ewalt and Iva Leone (Newman) Ewalt. He graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1948. On April 20, 1950, he and Joan Gayle Fuller were united in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church in Jesup, IA. They made their home in Jesup for many years before moving to Cabot, Arkansas where Marlin became the General Manager of the Cabot Manufacturing plant where he oversaw the production of satellite dishes for 20 years. While at Cabot, Marlin helped the company pioneer the satellite dish manufacturing industry. Upon his retirement from Cabot, they moved back to Jesup, Iowa, where Marlin enjoyed time with his family, friends and hobbies. Marlin was a master woodworker, having made many beautiful pieces for friends and family. He enjoyed painting, as it was the family business. He also enjoyed his trips to Canada for fishing, along with a good prank every now and then. Marlin was a member of UAW Post #838 of Waterloo, IA, having served as a past Steward. He served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict with the 82nd Airborne Division, as a paratrooper. He will be remembered as a man with passion and integrity for everything he did. Marlin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan of Jesup, IA; 2 sons, Jeffrey J. Ewalt of Jesup, IA, and Lowell A. Ewalt of Independence, IA; 1 daughter, Iva (Randy) Ruehs, of Jesup, IA; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Vetra (Donald) Brown, of Cedar Falls, IA. His parents; 3 brothers, Mack Ewalt, Mervin Ewalt, and Melvin Ewalt; and 1 sister, Vivian Smith, preceded him in death. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 21, 2013, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, Iowa, with Rev. Kathleen Sheets officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until services on Monday, at the funeral home. Memorials will be directed to the First Presbyterian Church and the American Lutheran Church, both in Jesup. |
