White Funeral Home Dunkerton – Jean Paul Knebel, 75 years old of Dunkerton, IA, died Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA. He was born March 2, 1938, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Ambrose Angelus Knebel and Marie Josephine (Bakula) Knebel. He attended Dunkerton Community Schools served in the US Army and Army Reserves from 1956 - 1963. On October 1, 1960, he was united in marriage to Karen Ann McGarvey at St. Francis Catholic Church - Barclay, rural Dunkerton, IA. Jean worked six years at Rath Packing before working 31 years at John Deere in Waterloo, retiring in December 1993. He served 35 years on the Dunkerton Fire Department, and was the first Chief of the Dunkerton Ambulance Service, serving in that position for 15 years. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church - Barclay, Dunkerton, IA, and UAW Local 838 in Waterloo, IA. Mr. Knebel is survived by his wife, Karen of Dunkerton; two sons, Robert (Donna) Knebel of McDonough, GA, Mark (Jody) Knebel of Bondurant; one daughter, Teresa Knebel of Jesup; six grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; three brothers, Jude Knebel, Dunkerton, Karl (Sandra) Knebel of Russell, IA, Nick (Pam) Knebel of Lake Stevens, WA; three sisters, Angeles Pope of Dunkerton, Monica Smith of Dunkerton, and Zita (Garry) Nolting of Waterloo; and one sister-in-law, Kay Knebel of Elk Run Heights. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son John Paul Knebel; two brothers, his twin, Loras "Lug" Knebel and Michael Knebel; one sister, Bernadette Knebel. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed wood working, hunting, fishing, berry picking, and gardening. A trip in the country “Gravel Travel” and visiting the Amish were also high on his list of activities. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. - Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at St. Francis Catholic Church - Barclay, rural Dunkerton, IA, with Fr. Scott F. Boone as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Peter Kress American Legion Post #636 of Dunkerton. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. - Tuesday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. - Parish Rosary and 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service, Tuesday. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family. |
