INDEPENDENCE – Rosemary C. Circus, 78 years old of rural Independence, IA, died Monday, August 26, 2013, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA. She was born April 23, 1935, at Black Hawk County, the daughter of Peter W. Schares and Mary C. (Schmitz) Schares. Rosemary attended school in Gilbertville, IA and in March of 1958 was united in marriage to Wade O. Gibson at Waterloo, IA. They later divorced. On December 31, 1989, she married Wendell W. Circus in the church on Wendell’s farm. Rosemary was a homemaker and was always helping people.

Rosemary was a member at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, and former member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, IA. She was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Rosemary never met a stranger, as she was a friend to many and she could often be found with her sisters, also known as “The Golden Girls.”

Rosemary is survived by 2 daughters, Julie (Billy) Abel, of Stratford, MO, and Linda (Marty Stephens) May, of Proctor, AR; 1 son, Wade ( Helen Wasiw) Gibson, Jr., of Proctor, AR; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Magdlen Frost, of Gilbertville, IA, Esther (Melvin) Weber, Jesup, IA and Elizabeth “Betty’ Joblinske, of Jesup; 1 step-daughter, Cindy (Gary) Waters, of Independence, IA; 7 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wendell; 4 brothers, Cleo Schares, LaVern Schares, Melvin Schares, and Cletus Schares; and 2 sisters, Theresa Schares and Mildred Schmit.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Thursday, August 29, 2013, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with Fr. Scott F. Boone as Celebrant.  Music will be by Monica Bengston, organist, Todd Rohlfsen, soloist and the St. Athanasius Choir. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville, IA. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a Catholic Order of Forester’s Rosary at 3p.m and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials will be directed to the family.
