White Funeral Home Independence – Ione R. Aitchison, 89 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at ABCM Rehab Independence – West in Independence. She was born on November 1, 1923, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Grant Burton and Pearl (Miller) Lemen. She graduated from high school in Dubuque. On May 20, 1944, she and Francis Albert Aitchison were married in Dubuque. He preceded her in death in 1998. Mrs. Aitchison was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Independence. She was a former Sunday School teacher, Youth Group Leader, and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was a 4-H leader for many years and she was a Girl Scout Leader for 14 years. She was also a member of Ladies Musical in Independence. Mrs. Aitchison enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, and home maker. She liked to spend time traveling with her husband, camping, working puzzles, singing, all kinds of handiwork, and playing cards (usually 500 or Euchre). Mrs. Aitchison is survived by one son, Dean (Glenda) Aitchison of Waterloo, Iowa, and 2 daughters, Ruth Ann (Dan) Crawford and Joann Cone, both of Independence, Iowa. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Grant Lemen of Davenport, Iowa, and 1 brother-in-law, Fayne Fuhrman of Corydon, Iowa. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Eunice Lewis and Jean Gold, and 1 grandson in infancy. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. John Hougen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence |
