White Funeral Home Independence – Thane J. Cleveland, 57 years old, of Independence, died at his home on July 30, 2013. He was born on June 29, 1956, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Travis Emerson and Joanne Marjorie (Stewart) Cleveland. He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1974 and then, attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. In 1985 he and the former Lori Becker were married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. They later divorced. Before his death, Mr. Cleveland was a psychiatric aide at the Mental Health Institute in Independence for 34 years. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. Mr. Cleveland liked to bicycle, play golf and tennis, and go cross country skiing. Actually, he was an all round sports junkie. He was a share holder in the Green Bay Packers Team. He was very good with statistics and managed a local football pool. He even scheduled his vacation time around the schedules of sporting events. He also walked and ran with his dog, Belle. Mr. Cleveland is survived by his father and step mother, Travis and Becky Cleveland of Dorchester, Iowa, 3 sisters, Shannon (Brent) Hood of Ankeny, Iowa, Joni (Ernie) Henderson of Independence, Iowa, and Susan (Brian) Hart of Chanhassen, Minnesota, 3 brothers, Chris Cleveland of Decorah, Iowa, Tad Cleveland of Germantown, Wisconsin, and Eric (Tanja) Cleveland of Rowlett, Texas, 3 step brothers, John (Carrie) Lammers of Sioux City, Iowa, Michael (Katie) Lammers of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Nathan (Jenny) Lammers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and 1 step sister, Beth (Steve) O’Donnell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his mother and 1 nephew, Jack M. Cleveland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2013, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa. Rev. Donald Plamondon will be the Celebrant. Casket Bearers will be Chris Cleveland, Tad Cleveland, Eric Cleveland, John Lammers, Michael Lammers, and Nathan Lammers. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Independence. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call for visitation from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1st, at the funeral home. |
