White Funeral Home Oelwein – G. Dale Andersen, 89 years old, of Oelwein, Iowa, died on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein. He was born on October 6, 1923, in Greenfield, Iowa, the son of Jesse and Emma (Strickland) Andersen. He attended the area country schools. On May 26, 1943, he and the former Ruby Anne Wheatley were married in Omaha, Nebraska. She preceded him in death in 2011. During World War II, he served as a medic in the U.S. Army. After returning home, Mr. Andersen farmed until retiring and moving to Oelwein. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hawkeye, Iowa, the Farm Bureau, and the Two Cylinder Club. He enjoyed working in his yard and garden, woodworking, metal crafting, and reading. He also collected John Deere toy tractors and worked on and collected the full sized antiques, too. Mr. Andersen is survived by his son, Gary (Kathy) Andersen of East Moline, Illinois, his daughter, Dalene (Richard) Gosse of Oelwein, Iowa, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 sister, Nedra (Harry) Bergman of Grand Junction, Colorado, and 3 brothers, Lyle (Sharon) Anderson of Janesville, Iowa, Marlin (Ruby) Andersen of St. Louis, Missouri, and Don (Lois) Anderson of Atlantic, Iowa. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2013, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Lee Rocholtz officiating. Burial will be in Quasqueton Cemetery in Quasqueton, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 18th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Military Service begins at 7 p.m. |
