Rowley – Evelyn M. Bures, 90 years old, of rural Rowley, Iowa, died on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at ABCM Rehab Independence – West in Independence, Iowa. She was born on August 22, 1922 in Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of William Horace and Alta Mae (Ensminger) Zimpfer. She graduated from high school in Quasqueton, Iowa, with the Class of 1940. On July 15, 1946, she and Lester Frank Bures were married in a double ring ceremony. The other couple was her sister and her husband, Marian and Alvin Ary. Mrs. Bures farmed with Lester in BuchananCounty. He preceded her in death in 2004. Mrs. Bures was a member of neighborhood social groups. She was a proficient quilter and many of her relatives and friends benefited from her efforts. She was also an expert when it came to making noodles, breads, and kolches.
Mrs. Bures is survived by her son, Wendel Bures of Rowley, Iowa, and 2 sisters, Frances Kelly of Van Horne, Iowa, and Sandra (Layton) Thomas of Roanoke, Virginia.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Kathryn Bures, and Marian Ary, and 3 brothers, Leslie Zimpfer, Wilbur Zimpfer, and Elmer Zimpfer (in infancy).
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2013, at the Quasqueton Cemetery in Quasqueton, Iowa, with Dr. David A. Larson officiating. Friends may call for visitation from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 28th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
