White Funeral Home Independence – Archie R. Mohlis, 91 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born on July 4, 1922, in Sumner, Iowa, the son of John J. and Mathilda (Suhr) Mohlis. He attended school in the Westgate area. On September 29, 1956, he and the former Gloria Leoncia Salaysay were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed in Buchanan County until retiring and moving to Independence in 2004. Mr. Mohlis was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence and the Farm Bureau. He liked to fish and hunt and work in his garden. He also enjoyed time spent playing cards (500 and Euchre) and visiting with relatives and friends. Mr. Mohlis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gloria, 1 daughter, Patricia Sauer of Rochester, Minnesota, and 3 sons, John Abbott and David (Tara) Mohlis, both of Independence, Iowa, and Vernon (Dawn McSweyn) Mohlis of The Dalles, Oregon. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Margaret Cannon of DeSoto, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Fritz Mohlis, and 1 grandson in infancy. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 29, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Pastor Kurt Bockoven officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call for visitation from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 28th, at the funeral home. |
