White Funeral Home Independence – Vergil A. Foster, 94 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at his home. He was born on May 8, 1919, in Middlefield Township of Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Carl and Pearl (Lewis) Foster. He attended the Buchanan County country schools. On October 2, 1940, he and the former Irene Florence Williamson were married in Manchester, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1993. He and Donna Pauline Williamson were married on December 21, 2001, in Independence, Iowa. Mr. Foster farmed in Buchanan County and hauled milk cans for the Independence Dairy for 26 years. He also was the school bus superintendent and a school bus driver for the Independence Community Schools for 35 years. He retired in 2000. Mr. Foster was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge, both in Independence. He was formerly an active member of the Buchanan County Wildlife, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards (500) with friends. Mr. Foster is survived by his wife, Donna, 2 sons, Larry (Sally) Foster of Greensburg, Indiana, and Terry (Deb) Foster of Independence, 2 step daughters, Shelly Williamson and Penny (Donnie) Dixon, both of Bellevue, Iowa, and 1 step son, Mike Williamson of Independence, Iowa. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, 1 brother, C.F. Foster of Manchester, Iowa, and 1 sister, Donabel Williams of Iowa City, Iowa. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 1 granddaughter in infancy. |
