White Funeral Home Independence – Roger D. Johnson, 68 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born on May 4, 1945, in Independence, Iowa, the son of George Herbert and Wylma Iris (Dodge) Johnson. He graduated from high school in Independence. Before retiring in 1995, he was a quality inspector at John Deere in Waterloo. On July 5, 1996, he and the former Karen Kay Bantz were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Mr. Johnson was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence and the U.A.W. Local #838. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren and fishing. He also tinkered with and rebuilt cars. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Karen, 2 sons, Roger L. Johnson of Independence, Iowa, and Mike (Jana) Johnson of Jesup, Iowa, and 3 grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 sister, Jeanne Higgs of Wooster, Ohio, 1 brother, Brian Johnson of Wooster, Ohio, 2 step sons, Brent (Nikki) Kimmerle of Winona, Minnesota, and Shane (Shari) Higgins of Nevada, Iowa, 8 step grandchildren, and 3 dogs, Nip, Tuck, and Sofie. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Joanne. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Jesup Bible Fellowship in Jesup, Iowa, with Pastor Mike Nemmers officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 28th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. |
