White Funeral Home Dunkerton – Harold L. DeLong, 76 years old of Dunkerton, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, peacefully in his sleep at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born May 15, 1937, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Nathaniel Jergens DeLong and Gladys Martha (Ackerman) DeLong. He graduated from Dunkerton High School with the class of 1955. On May 27, 1961, he and the former Helen Marie Eichenberger were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Hampton, IA. Harold was instrumental in helping establish the Dunkerton Sportsman's Club and he enjoyed fishing, golfing, trap and pistol shooting, horse shoes, and most of all, spending time with his family. Harold retired from John Deere in 1988 and was a member of UAW Local 838. Mr. DeLong is survived by his wife, Helen of Dunkerton, two daughters, Kimberly Miller of Ft. Worth, TX, Sharri (Tom) Gamerdinger of Dunkerton; one son, Jeff (Tracy) DeLong of Shellsburg; 8 grandchildren, Jeremy (Jenn), Amber (Kevin), Justin (Emily), Lacee (Steve), Morgan, Lexee, Madison and Michael; 4 great grandchildren, Gabby, Brexton, Jordan and Triton; two brothers, Tom (Kris) DeLong of Dunkerton, Jim (Becky) DeLong of Dunkerton; and one sister, Patricia (John) Ryherd of Dunkerton. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother & sister in infancy. Funeral Services will be 9:30 am - Saturday, June 22, 2013, at St. Francis Catholic Church - Barclay, rural Dunkerton, IA, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, Dunkerton. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA where there will be a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the family. |
