White Funeral Home Edgewood - Leonard J. Dlouhy, 83 years old, of rural Edgewood, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at his home. He was born on May 16, 1930, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Milo Edward and Mary Madeline (Tauber) Dlouhy, Sr. He attended the Westburg #7 school in Buchanan County. On February 5, 1950, he and the former Lucille May Jones were married at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Parsonage in Independence, Iowa. They farmed until retiring in 2005 when they moved to the Edgewood area. Mr. Dlouhy liked to fish and hunt mushrooms. He also was a John Deere tractor authority and enjoyed working with and on the tractors. Mr. Dlouhy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucille, 2 sons, Allen (Nancy) Dlouhy of Edgewood, Iowa, and Jim (Tonya) Dlouhy of Garrison, Iowa, 3 daughters, Janette (Dave) Siver of Mechanicsville, Iowa, Julie Davis of Vinton, Iowa, and Connie (Roy) Brockmeyer of Oelwein, Iowa. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Anna Mae Hanson of Bertram, Iowa, and Mary Jane Margretz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Jerry Dlouhy (in 1961) and Milo Dlouhy, Jr. (in 1995). Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Stephen Moore officiating. Casket Bearers will be Daniel Dlouhy, Richard Dlouhy, Ryan Dlouhy, Douglas Davis, Trever Siver, and Brian Buerger. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call for visitation from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 2nd, at the funeral home. |
