White Funeral Home Jesup – James G. Mashek, 76 years old of Jesup, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo. He was born March 25, 1937, at Decorah, IA, the son of George Clarence Mashek and Evelyn Mae (Strnad) Mashek. Jim graduated from Calmer High School with the class of 1955. He worked as a farm hand and then served in the US Army. He then moved to Waterloo and began working at John Deere. On August 7, 1965, he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Swestka in Protivin and they moved to Jesup around 1970. Mary preceded him in death on September 1, 2009. Jim was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 8227; Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 all in Jesup and UAW Local 838 in Waterloo. Jim is survived by one son, Matthew Mashek of Jesup; 3 granddaughters, Amanda Ryherd of Mitchell, SD, Miranda Mashek and Mirrisa Mashek both of Jesup; one great grandson Baylor Zane Ryherd; one sister, Gloria Mashek of Bettendorf and one brother, David (Sharon) Mashek of Spillville. In addition to his wife, his parents, one daughter Janice and 1 granddaughter Mercedes preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Thursday, April 25, 2013, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with Fr. Scott F. Boone as Celebrant. Music will be by Monica Bengston, organist, Todd Rohlfsen, soloist and the St. Athanasius Choir. Burial will be at St. Athanasius Cemetery, Jesup, with Military Rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Thursday at the church. Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius School, Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 and Camp Courageous of Iowa. |
