White Funeral Home Jesup – Irene Eva (Peck) Wordehoff, 91 years old of Jesup, IA, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA. She was born May 9, 1921 in Hancock County, at Kanawha, IA, the daughter of Bruce Harkinson Peck and Dora Ann (Wagner) Peck. She graduated from Clarion High School, Clarion, IA, with the class of 1941. She taught in rural one-room schoolhouses in Wright and Franklin Counties from 1941 – 1948 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls during the summers of 1941, 1942 and 1947. It was on campus at Iowa’s Teacher College that she met Paul Wordehoff in 1947. She and Paul Edward Wordehoff were united in marriage on June 19, 1948, in Clarion, IA. They moved to a farm near Jesup in 1954, where they raised their family. Irene was a homemaker, she also baked wedding, birthday, and graduation cakes and did seamstress work from 1971 until 1996. She was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup and taught CCD classes there for 25 years. Mrs. Wordehoff is survived by four sons, Loren (Rosie) Wordehoff of Yuma, AZ, Norman (Sheryl) Wordehoff of Rowley, IA, Mark (Mary Dodge) Wordehoff of Shellsburg, IA, Gary Paul (Loni) Wordehoff of LaPorte City, IA; four daugthers, Ja Peck and Linda Beving, both of Carrollton, TX, Roxanne (Ricky) Weber and Rita (Gary) Smith both of Jesup, IA; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; one brother, Beryl (Evelyn) Peck of Waverly, IA; two sisters, Thelma (Arnold) Prohaska of Mason City, IA, Doris (Robert) Prohaska of Garner, IA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul on February 21, 1998; son in law, Greg Beving; four brothers, Burdette, Merle, Terry and Charles Peck and two sisters, Dorothy Keeling and Charlotte Peck. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Saturday, April 6, 2013, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA with Fr. Scott F. Boone as celebrant. Music will be by Monica Bengston, organist, Todd Rohlfsen, soloist and the St. Athanasius Choir. Burial will be at St. Athanasius Cemetery, Jesup, IA. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Rosary and 7:00 p.m. Vigil service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Saturday at the church. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA is in charge of the arrangements. |
