White Funeral Home Independence – Everett Lorain “Jake” Jacobs, 87 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born on May 19, 1925, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Wilbert Samuel and Anna Maye (Donovan) Jacobs. He graduated from high school in Rowley, Iowa, as the Valedictorian of the Class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy. On January 20, 1945, he and the former Verna Elizabeth Harris were married in Yuma, Arizona. They later divorced. On August 18, 1973, he and the former Delores Elaine Lenius were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Before retiring in 1991, Mr. Jacobs was a milk hauler for Wapsie Valley Creamery in Independence. He was a long time bowler in the bowling leagues of Independence. He also enjoyed fishing and watching boxing matches. Mr. Jacobs is survived by his wife, Delores, 4 daughters, Pamela Hand of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Linda (Carl) Payne of Dewey, Arizona, Rita (Angus) Macdonald of Mayer, Arizona, and Bev (Jeff) Miller of Independence, Iowa, and 2 step sons, Mike (Julie) Lenius of Independence, Iowa, and Marc Lenius of Waterloo, Iowa. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Donald Jacobs, Lawrence Jacobs, and Ervin Jacobs, and 2 sisters, Evelyn Jacobs and Catherine Quass. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Kurt Bockoven officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 5th, at the funeral home where a Military Services begins at 7:00 p.m. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. |
