White Funeral Home Independence – Delores Jean Armstrong, 84 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care in Independence. She was born on November 26, 1928, in Urbana, Iowa, the daughter of Lucius and Vera (Walton) Robison. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1946, and continued her education at Young’s Beauty School in Waterloo. On June 22, 1947, she and Edwin Russell Armstrong were married in Hazleton, Iowa. Mrs. Armstrong was a secretary at Rath Packing in Waterloo and Lane Insurance and Kegler Dentistry in Independence. She also was a beautician with a shop in her home for 20 years before retiring in 1990. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence. Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ed, 1 son, Gary Armstrong of Evansdale, Iowa, 1 daughter, Carol (John) Lappe of Brandon, Iowa, 2 grandsons, 3 great granddaughters, 2 great great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Robert (Betty) Robison of Walker, Iowa, and Dean (Linda) Robison of Dysart, Iowa, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Hazleton, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation for an hour before services at the church in Independence. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. A Memorial Fund has been established. |
