White Funeral Home Independence – A. Marjorie “Marge” Henderson, 94 years old, of Independence, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on November 22, 1918, in Mingo, Iowa, the daughter of Ira Joab and Mabel Natalie (Turner) Campbell. She graduated from high school in Rowley, Iowa, with the Class of 1936. On January 27, 1940, she was united in marriage to Dr. Robert James Henderson in Vinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1984. Marge led an active life and enjoyed her church activities at the First Presbyterian Church. These activities included first grade Sunday School teacher, Youth Fellowship leader, choir, Sunday School Superintendent, Mariner Skippers, Deacon, Session member, Historian, Bible School teacher, Circle chairman and Pulpit Committee. She was a 50 year member of Chapter BD P.E.O. and volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Mobile. She was an ardent supporter of the Independence Public Library, the VFW, The Buchanan County Historical Society, the new Independence High School, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Cubs. She loved watching baseball, gardening, fishing, walking, and feeding and watching the birds. Marge is survived by 2 daughters, Linda (Douglas) Hearn and Marcia (Deb Andresen) Henderson, both of Independence, Iowa, 3 grandchildren, Rachel (Kevin) Snow of Wausau, Wisconsin, and Stacy (Kelly) Henderson and Robert (Melissa) Hearn, both of Independence, Iowa, and 11 great grandchildren; and 1 daughter-in-law, Andrea (Leroy) Hand of Oelwein, Iowa. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Larry Henderson, 1 granddaughter, Kathryn Eschen, 4 brothers, 4 sisters, and 1 half sister. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. John Hougen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a P.E.O. Service begins at 4 p.m. A memorial fund has been established. |
