White Funeral Home Independence – Evelyn Lucille Baker, 91 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on January 5, 1922, in Carroll County, Iowa, the daughter Herbert H. and Clara (White) Williamson. She graduated from high school in Independence. On November 6, 1943, she married Harold Eugene Baker. He preceded her in death in 1996. For 20 years, Mrs. Baker was a clerk at McGraw’s Office Supply and Conlee’s Office Supply in Independence. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence and the Peoples Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Baker volunteered at the Gift Shop at Peoples Hospital and also enjoyed fishing, doing crafts, and trying new recipes. She also was in charge of spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Baker is survived by 1 daughter, Sue (Roger) Fangman of Rowley, Iowa, 2 grandchildren, Tammy (Ron) Hermsen and Curt (Colleen) Fangman, and 5 great grandchildren, Ashley Hermsen, Andrew Hermsen, Gavin Fangman, Garrett Fangman, and Gracyn Fangman. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Roger Baker, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Independence with Dr. David A. Larson officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Hazleton, Iowa. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25th, at the funeral home. |
