White Funeral Home Dunkerton- Phyllis J. Grady, 85 years old of Graettinger, IA, and formerly of Dunkerton, IA, died Friday, December 28, 2012, at the Muse – Norris Inpatient Unit – Hospice of North Iowa, in Mason City, IA. She was born February 28, 1927, at home in Geneseo, Iowa, the daughter of Rodney Smith Speer and Helen Pearl (Merritt) Speer. She attended high school in Dunkerton, IA and graduated with the class of 1944. On June 19, 1949, she was united in marriage to Loren Grant Grady in Dunkerton. Phyllis was a farm wife and mother, had worked at Rath Packing, Waterloo, IA before marriage and in later years worked as a Teachers Aid in the Dunkerton school system. She loved being with her children and grandchildren, if there was an activity they were involved in she was there. She enjoyed bird watching, especially cardinals, reading, and coffee with the ladies. Mrs. Grady is survived by two sons, Michael (Nancy) Grady of Moravia, IA, Richard (Marge) Grady of Dunkerton, IA; two daughters, Cathy (Alan) McGregor of Charles City, IA, Cheryl (Don) Harris of Graettinger, IA; 11 grandchildren, Bryan Grady, Ben Grady, Melanie Bialet, Carrie Grady, Kristal Kuper, Ryan Dotson, Chris McGregor, James McGregor, Patrick McGregor, Zach Harris and Sara Harris; 5 great grandchildren, Skylar Bialet, Riley Dotson, Ryan Dotson, Ayden McGregor and Sage Grady; two sisters, Marlys Sage of Madison, WI, Harriet Wheeler of Dunkerton, IA; one brother, Robert (Judy) Speer of Dunkerton, IA. In addition to her husband, Loren, who died July 12, 2000, she is preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Kyle Grady Harris; and two brothers, Darrel Speer and Oliver E. “Ed” Speer. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. – Thursday, January 3, 2013, at the Dunkerton United Methodist Church with Rev. Patty M. Eastman officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Dunkerton, IA. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA and for an hour before services Thursday at the church. Memorial may be directed to the family. |
