White Funeral Home Independence – Carolyn Marie Versluis, 75 years old, died suddenly on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on August 25, 1937, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Lee Willis and Irene Charlotte (Rider) Spece. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1955. On March 25, 1960, she and Robert Henri Versluis were married in El Paso, Texas. They later divorced. Mrs. Versluis was a home maker, but also worked in service positions at several places in Independence. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading, and people watching, most recently at Walmart. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Mrs. Versluis is survived by 1 daughter, Sheryl Versluis, of Independence, Iowa, and 1 brother, Virgil Spece of Independence, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Shirley Johnson and Phyllis Claypool. Memorial Services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 2012, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Oelwein, Iowa. Her cremated remains will be placed in the Cremation Garden at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa. |
