White Funeral Home Independence – Newell Leroy McCauley, 77 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at ABCM Rehab Independence – West in Independence. He was born on June 5, 1935, in Richland Center, Wisconsin, the son of Leroy and LaVilla (Baxter) McCauley. He graduated from high school in Richland Center in 1953. He served in Korea with the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. On August 19, 1960, he and the former Janet Thalia Cooper were married in Richland Center Wisconsin. They moved to Independence in 1962. Mr. McCauley was a road construction worker until he retired in 2006. He was a member of the Sheehan-Tidball American Legion Post #30 in Independence. Mr. McCauley enjoyed activities with his grandchildren and his friends. He liked playing cards, hosting fish fries at his home, and watching police television shows. He also was a Green Bay Packer fan and was able to attend one game at Lambeau Field. Mr. McCauley is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet, 2 daughters, Kelly (Bill) Stenzhorn of Wichita, Kansas, and Lisa McCauley of McKinney, Texas, and 2 sons, Ron McCauley of Clarinda, Iowa, and Mark Scharff of St. Louis, Missouri. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 2 sisters, LaGreeta Holloway of Watertown, Wisconsin, and JeLayne (Arlen) Ewers of Elgin, Illinois, and 1 brother, Roland (Madalene) McCauley of Richland Center, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Dr. David A. Larson officiating. His cremated remains will be placed in the Cremation Garden at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16th, at the funeral home where a Military Service begins at 6:30 p.m. |
