Jesup – Elaine M. Vogel, 80 years old of Jesup, IA, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at Buchanan County Health Center’s Long Term Care Unit.  She was born April 22, 1932, at Hanlontown, IA, the daughter of Martin Oswald and Louise (Marotz) Oswald.  She graduated from East High School, Waterloo, IA in 1949, and later received her BA degree in Education from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.  On June 3, 1950, she was united in marriage to James Donald Vogel in Waterloo, IA.  Elaine taught school in the rural schools and then taught 4^th grade at Wapsie Valley Community Schools before retirement.  She was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, and the Even Dozen Study Club in Jesup.

Mrs. Vogel is survived by her husband, Jim of Jesup; five sons, Steve (Connie) Vogel of Jesup, Joe (Kris) Vogel of Waterloo, Pat Vogel of Waterloo, Tim (Cindy) Vogel Neepawa, Manitoba, Canada, Marty (Rhonda) Vogel of Blairstown, IA; six daughters, Sherri Schmitt of Jesup, Peg (Dave) Gilchrist of Reasnor, IA, Beth Augustine of Jesup, Ann (Lowell) Fenner of Iowa City, Nancy (Neil) Steege of Newhall, Barb (Harold) Murtha of Victor, IA; 28 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; one brother, Myron Oswald of Harpers Ferry, IA; one sister, Bernice Mixdorf of Cedar Falls, IA.  She is preceded in death by her parents, one great granddaughter, Hannah Pint; two brothers, Clarence and Melvin Oswald; three sisters, Esther Hudson, Erma Husome, Irene Maxson, and her son in law, Steven Schmitt.

Services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, July 18^th at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA with burial in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday July 17^th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA where there will be a 3:00 p.m. Rosary and 7:00 pm Vigil Service.  Visitation will continue for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.  Memorials will be directed to Smile Train, Jesup Public Library and Cedar Valley Hospice.
