Jesup – Clarence L. Liebsch, 88 years old of Independence, IA and formerly of Jesup, IA, died Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a short illness.  He was born July 30, 1923, at Urbana, IA the son of Leo Glen Liebsch and Cobie (Petro) Liebsch.  He graduated from Urbana High School with the class of 1941.  On March 3, 1943, he was united in marriage to Nona Louise Wathen in Kahoka, MO.  They made their home in Jesup, where Clarence and Nona farmed and raised their family.  He also worked at the East Central Iowa Cooperative in Jesup and for Quality Crafts in Independence.  He had served in the US Army during WWII and was a member of Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 in Jesup, had been 4H-Leader for many years and was a constitute member of the United Methodist Church.  Nona preceded him in death on March 19, 2009.  On January 7, 2012, Clarence married Darlene Rosalie (Sadler) Higgins at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Darlene of Independence; one daughter, Marilyn (Fred) Josephson of Cumberland, RI; two sons, LaVern (Karen) Liebsch of Jesup, IA, Gary (Peg) Liebsch of Waverly, IA; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; also four step-daughters, Lori (Jim) Baxley of Winthrop, IA, Linda (Scott) Justanson of Rowley, IA, Debbie Higgins of Independence, IA, Diane (Mark) Sands of Delhi, IA; three step-sons, Daryl (Alice) Higgins and Gary (Emily) Higgins of Brandon, IA, Kenneth (Kim) Higgins of Walker, IA; 27 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great granddaughter.  In addition to his first wife Nona, his parents, one sister, Evelyn Munter and one step grandson preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. – Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church, Jesup, IA with Rev. Lynn C. Gardner officiating.  Music will be by Dawn Quackenbush, organist and Kraig Emick soloist.  Burial will be at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup, IA, with military rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 of Jesup, IA.  Honorary Casket Bearers will be Eric Josephson, Daryl Higgins, Gary Higgins and Kenneth Higgins.  Casket Bearers will be Fred Josephson, III, Jeff Dean, Eric Hanson, Bobby Liebsch, Andy Liebsch and Dan Liebsch.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, and for and hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested, which will be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice and other charities.
