GILBERTVILLE – Jerome R. Nie 63 years old of Gilbertville, IA, died Thursday, March 22, 2012 at his home.  He was born April 22, 1948, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Louis Martin Nie and Hilda Clara (Zieser) Nie.  He graduated from Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville with the class of 1967.  On August 14, 1976, he was united in marriage to Toni Johnson in Jesup, IA.  They later divorced.  Jerome farmed and later worked as a truck driver. He also worked in the cattle breeding industry.  He served as an advisor to the production crew for the movie “Country,” enjoyed being with friends, anywhere there was good conversation or a tractor pull.  He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Mr. Nie is survived by two daughters, Sara (Michael) Hazel of Des Moines, IA, and Emily (Joshua) Simmons of Ankeny, IA; also four grandchildren, Emma Hazel, Logan Hazel, Andrew Simmons and Reese Simmons; two sisters, Karen (Jim) Rottinghaus of LaPorte City, IA, Kathleen (Michael) Murphy of Waterloo, IA; and one brother, Donald Nie of LaPorte City, IA.  His parents; two sisters, Lenora Nie and Rosella Sadler; and one brother, Laverne Nie, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, IA, with Fr. Henry P. Huber as celebrant.  Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilbertville, IA.  Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 26th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will also continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
