Jesup – Chidley Glenn “Chid” McCalley, 85 years old of Jesup, IA, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA, following a sudden illness. He was born May 30, 1926, in Independence, IA, the son of Alva Carl McCalley and Bernice Alta (Arnold) McCalley. He graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1944. On August 1, 1945, he was united in marriage to Doris Arlene Pooler, in Independence, IA. Chid was a Sergeant in the US Army Air Corp, and served in the B-29 Ninth Bomber Group at Tinian Island in 1945. It was during this time that Chid learned about electronics as he repaired radio equipment and other devices. Chid and Doris moved to Jesup, IA, in 1948. He worked at the Jesup Cooperative Creamery, and in 1949 established McCalley Radio & TV. He also worked at Waterloo Wood Bearings and later was hired at Farnsworth Electronics in Waterloo, where he worked for many years. He was always active in the community, he had served on the Jesup Community School Board for several years and had served as Board President. He served one term as Mayor of Jesup, was active on the Jesup Ambulance Service for 14 years, he was involved in area Boy Scout activities and had served as a Scout Leader. He was a member of Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342, and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jesup. Chid and Doris enjoyed square dancing, traveling with their family, boating and camping. In later years he enjoyed being able to spend time with his grandchildren and was always interest in their endeavors.

Mr. McCalley is survived by his wife, Doris of Jesup, IA; three daughters, Kathy A. Schutte of Jesup, IA, Susan K. (Robert) Johnson of Glenwood, IA, Nancy L. (John) Clary of Ames, IA; two sons, David G. (Barbara) McCalley of Nixa, MO, Daryl A. (Diane) McCalley of Farmington, MN; 8 grandchild; 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Byrdine Wilson and Georgia (Don) Sherretts of Independence, IA. His parents; one son, David Allen McCalley and one brother, Alva Carl McCalley, Jr. preceded him in death.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. - Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup, with Rev. Kristy K. Parker officiating. Casket Bearers will be Andrew McCalley, Aaron Schutte, Brandon Johnson, Brady Clary, Mitchell McCalley, Jeremy Elliott and Dustin Smith. Burial will be at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup, with military rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 of Jesup. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 9th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Memorials will directed to the Jesup Ambulance Service Building Fund.
