Independence – Julie Beth Brown, 62 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.  She was born on August 12, 1949, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Paul Edwin and Donna Mae (Pierce) Jones.  She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1967 and then earned a B.A. degree in Art Education at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.  On February 10, 1979, she and Martin Richard Brown were married at the First United Methodist Church in Independence.  Mrs. Brown was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, Chapter BD P.E.O., and her weekly Bridge Club.  She had a passion for interior design and a talent for working with colors.  She enjoyed flower gardening and visits to Walt Disney World.  Also, the evening meal with her family was always an event.  She planned menus days or weeks in advance and everyone was expected to be home at the appointed hour.  She also was an enthusiastic travel planner for her family. And finally, she was really looking forward to being a grandmother this summer.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Lindsey.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence with Rev. John Hougen officiating.  Casket Bearers will be Rob Brown, Ryan Brown, Joey Jones, Trent Jones, Kim Rohlfing, and Tom Rohlfing.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.
