Fairbank – Harry Louis Hovey, 83 years old, of Fairbank, Iowa, died on Monday, November 7, 2011, at his home following a sudden illness.  He was born on May 10, 1928, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Asa and Mildred Lucille (Meyer) Hovey.  He graduated from high school in Independence, Iowa.  He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  On July 19, 1953, he and the former Ruth Louise Beebe were married at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa.  She preceded him in death in 1998.  Mr. Hovey worked for John Deere Co. in Waterloo, Iowa, at the foundry and then as a cab inspector, for 30 years.  He retired in 1985.  Then, he and his wife owned and operated Horse and Buggy Crafts in Fairbank until her death.  Mr. Hovey was a member of the U.A.W. Local #838 in Waterloo.  He collected John Deere memorabilia.  He enjoyed watching football on television and taking walks.  He also enjoyed time spent with his friends.

Mr. Hovey is survived by 1 son, Steven Hovey of Independence, Iowa, and 4 daughters, Vicki Hovey of Waterloo, Iowa, Susan (Steven Shaner) Peterman and Shawn Bear, both of Oelwein, Iowa, and Lisa (Rob) Stoler of Jesup, Iowa.  He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Frank Hovey of Independence, Iowa, and 1 sister, Elizabeth Loomis of California.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Debra Sue Hovey, in infancy, 1 brother, Larry Hovey, and 1 sister, Margurette Hovey.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2011, at the Hope Wesleyan Church in Independence with Rev. Bob Solon officiating.  Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Hazleton, Iowa.  Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Military Service begins at 7 p.m.
