Jesup – Shirley A. Burns, 78 years old of Jesup, IA, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Manor Care Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo, IA.  She was born March 12, 1935, in Manchester, IA, the daughter of William Francis “Frank” Burns and Veronica Margaret (Moran) Burns.  Her family moved to Jesup around 1944 and Shirley graduated from St. John’s High School in Independence, IA.  She worked 32 years as an Office Clerk at Rath Packing and later at Chamberlain Manufacturing, both in Waterloo.  She was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, and Catholic Daughters of America Court of St. Pius X #1714 in Jesup.

Shirley is survived by one brother and sister in law, William and Judy Burns of Cedar Falls, IA.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a stillborn infant sister.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. – Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Rev. Scott F. Boone as Celebrant.  Music will be by Monica Bengston, organist and the St. Athanasius Choir.  Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Masonville, IA.  The family will greet friends for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.  Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA.
